On Sunday, November 23rd at the awards dinner in Indianapolis, Isaac Huerta was named the Indiana Player of the Year by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association. Huerta was joined by his coach, Viratham Mounsithiraj, who was named the Indiana Coach of the Year. Isaac is only the 8th player from the Northern half of the state to ever win the award.
Goshen High School and Edward Jones are proud to announce the student-athlete of the month award to recognize athletic and academic excellence. A senior male and female student-athlete will be selected from August – May each school year. At the end of the year, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student athlete of the month, as selected by the GHS head coaching staff.
The winners of the Edward Jones Student-Athlete of the Month Award for October are:
Row 1: Tyler Born, Brooke Miller, & Rick Yoder
Brooke Miller: Brooke is the daughter of Jeryl & Kim Miller. Brooke is a senior on the girls’ volleyball team and plays libero for the team. She helped the defense by receiving the ball 187 times in the month of October and only had 11 errors. She aslo accumulated 132 digs and 4 serving aces in October. She was voted All-Conference this year and received the Defense Award for volleyball this year. Brooke also plays for the softball team and volunteers in the nursery at Grace Community Church. She also participates in travel softball and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Brooke is a Kiwanis Scholar Athlete, on the high honor roll and has received the Captain Award, Teamwork Award, and Mental Attitude Award in softball. She plans to go to Concordia University in Chicago to major in Nursing and play softball.
Tyler Born: Tyler is the son of Bill & Shawna Born. Tyler is the goalie for the 2014 Boys’ State Champion soccer team. He was voted All-Conference and Co-MVP for Soccer. Tyler also participates in Baseball and is a part of PACT. Tyler plans to attend Goshen College to play soccer and major in Teaching/Counseling with a possible minor in Sports Management.
Girls Golf apparel now available
A web store is now available by clicking here with official Goshen High School Girls Golf apparel with various items including shirts, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, scarves, and pullovers. The store will only be open beginning Monday, November 10th and closing on Sunday, November 23rd at midnight. This is a one time only deal so get your items while you can! Items could take up to 20 business days to deliver once the store has closed. All items will be received on or before December 23rd.

Season tickets for the Boys Basketball season will be on sale next Tuesday evening at the home Boys Basketball game against Mishawaka Marian, starting at 6:15 p.m. The season tickets are good for Varsity, JV, & 9th grade games. The JV game begins at 6:15 p.m. Ticket prices are as follows:
6th Grade – Adult: $60.00
Senior Citizen (65+): $30.00
Kindergarten – 5th Grade: $30.00
6th Grade – 8th Grade Junior High: $30.00
You may also purchase tickets at the GHS Athletic Office Monday – Friday from 7:30-4:00 p.m.
The athletic department will sponsor PiYo and Sports Performance sessions starting Monday, 12/1. Mrs. Mindi Swihart will run PiYo sessions each Monday through Christmas break starting at 4 PM in the warehouse. Mr. Jim Whittaker will run sports performance sessions starting Tuesday, 12/2 on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Christmas Break. These sessions are available to any student who have their current physical exams and concussion acknowledgement forms on file in the athletic office. Excuses vs. Excellence…what will you be doing to become better?
November is diabetes awareness month and the Goshen & New Prairie High School swim teams are working together to help raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Please come out to support the teams as the raise money on Monday, Nov. 24th beginning at 6:00 p.m. for the JDRF! T-shirts can be purchased for $10.00 by going to the GHS Swim web page. All proceeds will be donated to the JDRF. Any student who wears their t-shirt to the meet will gain free admission. Spectators will have an opportunity to be able to donate money and will have their name displayed in the pool area. Let’s make waves for a cure and support JDRF together!
Here’s some cool things about the night:
** Donations have been secured to be able to give each swimmer on both teams a cap that promotes JDRF.
** T-shirts will be sold that will commemorate the event with all proceeds going to JDRF. They are only $10. Click here for the order form.
** Students and staff will also be able to purchase the shirts at the Red Zone. Each student that wears their shirt to the meet will gain free admission.
** GHS will also be collecting monetary donations for JDRF…look for boxes around school.
** Spectators of the meet will have an opportunity to able to donate to JDRF and we will display their names on a JDRF shoe in the pool area.
** This will also be our annual GSI night, where swimmers from the club will come to cheer us on. Let’s show them a great night of fast swimming and team unity by all working together to help a great cause!
