Flores named to All-State Team

 Congratulations to Sebastian Flores who was named to the 1st team All-State Boys Soccer team! Flores was one of the 18 players who were named to the 1st team for All-State for both 1A & 2A Boys Soccer. Sebastian was also named to the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association 1st Team All-District team for 2015. Flores also received the MVP Award, Captain’s Award, & Outstanding Midfielder Award for the GHS team this year. He is a 3-year Varsity letter winner, was All-Conference, and was a Kiwanis Scholar Athlete.

All GHS student-athletes are strongly encouraged to take part in the GHS athletic department summer sports performance program.  It is a program designed to help you improve your overall ATHLETICISM:  speed, quickness, balance, coordination, power, and core strength.

Winter Sports Performance (Nov. – Dec.)

GHS Winter Sports Performance (Nov. – Dec.)

All GHS student-athletes are strongly encouraged to take part in the GHS athletic department sports performance program.  It is a program designed to help you improve your overall ATHLETICISM:  speed, quickness, balance, coordination, power, and core strength.

The GHS athletic department sports performance sessions for both male & female athletes will run every Monday through Thursdsay after school in the Warehouse from 4:05-4:00 PM. This will begin starting after Thanksgiving Break until the start of Christmas Break.

Sessions will be run by Coach Clark & Coach Smeltzer and interested athletes can contact either of them for more details. Any athlete interested much have current concussion paperwork & physical exam on file with the athletic office in order to participate. Students can change in Whiteman Gym locker rooms and should meet at the Warehouse.

Girls’ C Team Basketball Schedule Updates

The Girls’ C Basketball team has added a game to their schedule vs. Fairfield. This game will be played on December 3rd at Fairfield with tip-off at 6:30 PM.

The Girls’ C Team Basketball game on December 8th vs. West Noble has been cancelled. The C team will now play Angola on December 8th at Goshen High School with a start time of 6:30 PM.

Swim Meet vs. New Prairie Cancelled

The swim meet for tonight, November 23rd vs. New Prairie has been cancelled. A make-up date is set for January 19th at Goshen Middle School at 6:00 PM. This meet will also include East Noble & Westview.

October Edward Jones Student Athlete of the Month

Goshen High School and Edward Jones are proud to announce the student-athlete of the month award to recognize athletic and academic excellence.  A senior male and female student-athlete will be selected from August – May each school year.  At the end of the year, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student athlete of the month, as selected by the GHS head coaching staff.

The winners of the Edward Jones Student-Athlete of the Month Award for October are:

Row 1: Aaron Wilkinson, Hudson Kay, Claire Palczynski & Brad Clayton

Claire Palczynski: Claire is the daughter of Ray Palczynski and  Mary Kay & Peter Delneky. Claire is a senior on the girls golf team and maintains a GPA of 3.75. She is also involved in swimming, National Honor Society, Student Council, Stay in Bounds Ambassadors, Mascot Steering Committee & the Youth Group at her church. Claire also helps organize & run the Special Needs Prom and the Track Event. She has received many honors including Academic All-State Honorable Mention (golf), Most Valuable Player (golf), & Kiwanis Scholar Athlete each year in both sports. Claire was a team captain and had the best 18-hole and 9-hole average on the team. She plans on attending Purdue University to major in Food Science and would like to work as a product developer/flavor tech. for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

Hudson Kay: Hudson is the son of David & Jan Kay. Hudson is a senior on the boys’ tennis team and maintains a GPA of 4.08. Hudson also participates in Diving, Track & Field, National Honor Society, Stay in Bounds Ambassadors, & Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has received many awards while at GHS including NLC All-Conference (tennis, 2014-2015; diving, 2015), Coaches Award (tennis, 2015), Regional Champions (tennis, 2015), and was a State Qualifier in diving (6th place, 2014). He played at the 1 Singles spot for the Regional Champion tennis team and was selected to the All-District Team & was Academic All-State Honorable Mention. Hudson plans on diving & continuing his education at either West Point or the Naval Academy.

Swim & Dive Schedule Change

The swim meet vs. South Bend Riley originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14th has been postponed to Saturday, December 19th due to scheduling conflicts. This will be held at Goshen Middle School starting at 9:30 AM.

Mascot Voting Opportunities

Alumni who live within Goshen School district boundaries (Elkhart Township) can vote Tuesday, Nov. 10th from noon to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 11th from 7:30-2:00 p.m. Alumni will need to bring 2 forms of ID (both of which contains a photo) and will also need to know their graduation year.

Voting will be available during the home Girls Basketball game against Lakeland next Tuesday evening. Alumni will be granted free admission to the game.
