Goshen Girls Relays

The 27th annual Goshen Relays girls’ track & field meet sponsored by T-shirt Printing Plus will be hosted at GHS’s Foreman Field on Saturday, 5/7.  The field events will begin at 9:00 AM. The running events will begin at 10:00 AM.

The main entrance gate is by the concession stand.  This will be the only ticket gate open.  If you park in the circle drive you will have to walk around the west side of the school.

Ticket gates will open at 8:00 a.m. and admission price is $5 for kindergarten to adult.  Goshen High School All sport tickets and Goshen High School student activity cards will be honored.

Ms. Dawn Hicks is the honorary referee for this year’s meet.  Dawn will be recognized at 11:15 AM along with the Relays King and court. The girls’ relays are sponsored by T-shirt Printing Plus out of Kalamazoo, MI.

Varsity Baseball Addition

The Varsity baseball team has added a game to their schedule this spring. They will now play this Saturday, April 30th vs. DeKalb. The game will take place at DeKalb and will start at noon on Saturday.

Hector Flores College Commitment

Hector Flores will be attending Ancilla College in Donaldson, Indiana where he was recruited to play for the Wrestling team. Hector is the son of Marquita Flores and Shawn Haley. The GHS senior has received many honors including the January Edward Jones Student Athlete and runner-up in the Goshen Invitational, NLC, Sectional & Regional tournaments (2015-16). Hector was also a Semi-State qualifier this year and received the Most Improved Award (2014-15) and is a 2-year letter winner for wrestling. In addition to wrestling for Ancilla, his future plans include earning his Associates degree in Nursing and working in the physical therapy field.

Spring Sports Performance

GHS Spring Sports Performance (April – May)

All GHS student-athletes are strongly encouraged to take part in the GHS athletic department sports performance program.  It is a program designed to help you improve your overall ATHLETICISM:  speed, quickness, balance, coordination, power, and core strength.

The GHS athletic department sports performance sessions for female athletes will run every Tuesday and Thursday after school in the weight room from 4:00-6:00 PM. Any girl not in a spring sport is encouraged to attend. Sessions will be run by Coach West, Coach Krebs, and Coach Sloan and any interested athletes can contact any of them for more information. Students can change in Whiteman Gym locker rooms and should meet at the weight room.

The GHS athletic department sports performance sessions for male athletes will run every Monday, Tuesday (warehouse) and Thursday after school in the weight room from 3:50-5:00 PM. Any male not in a spring sport is encouraged to attend. Sessions will be run by Coach Park and any interested athletes can contact him for more information. Students can change in Whiteman Gym locker rooms and should meet at the weight room.

Any athlete interested much have current concussion paperwork & physical exam on file with the athletic office in order to participate.

March Edward Jones Student Athletes

Edward Jones Scholar Athlete of the Month:

Goshen High School and Edward Jones are proud to announce the student-athlete of the month award to recognize athletic and academic excellence.  A senior male and female student-athlete will be selected from August – May each school year.  At the end of the year, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student athlete of the month, as selected by the GHS head coaching staff.

The winners of the Edward Jones Student-Athlete of the Month Award for March are:

Row 1: Cam Kline, Keith Neuenschwander, & Nora Rangel

Nora Rangel: Nora is the daughter of Nora Medina & Marco Rangel. She is a senior on the girls’ track team and maintains a GPA of 3.371. She is also on the cross country team, orchestra, art club, and Stay in Bounds Ambassadors. Nora was the anchor leg of the 4 x 800 team that qualified for the Indoor State Championship in March. In 3 track meets in March, she placed first in the 1600 twice, 1st in the 400, 1st in the 4 x 800 three times, and 1st in the 4 x 400 in helping lead the girls’ track team to a 5-0 record to start the season. Nora is a three-year letter winner for track and cross country and has received many awards while at GHS including Beets Hoke Teamwork Award, NLC All-Conference in the 3200R (2014-15), Sectional Champion in the 800, 3200R, 1600R (2014-15), and State Qualifier in the 3200R (2014-15), Most Valuable Player (cross country, 2015-16), and Kiwanis Scholar Athlete. After high school, Nora plans on attending Goshen College and then Ball State to major in Nursing. She plans on working with people who are sick in different parts of the world as well as work in the photography field.

Cam Kline: Cam is the son of Maurie & Dawn Kline. He is a senior on the boys’ basketball team and maintains a GPA of 3.497. He is also on the football and track & field teams, GTV, GHS Redzone, and Stay in Bounds Ambassadors. Cam was 70% from the field in the two postseason basketball games in March, 72.7% from 3’s, and 100% from the free throw line. He had 39 points and 4 assists and was first team all-sectional (Elkhart Truth). In track, Cam placed first in the 4 x 100 Relay, 4 x 400 Relay, and the 200m dash against West Noble. Against Fairfield, Cam placed first in the 400 m dash and the 4 x 400 Relay. He is a three-year letter winner in football, basketball, and track and has received many honors while at Goshen including All-Conference Honorable Mention (football, 2014-15), Captain’s Award (football, 2015-16), and Beets Hoke Teamwork Award (basketball, 2015-16). He has been a Kiwanis Scholar Athlete each season of his high school career as well as being on the High Honor Roll each year. After graduating from Goshen, Cam plans on attending Purdue University to pursue a major in Pharmacy.

Boys Track Relays

The 74th annual Goshen Relays boys’ track & field meet sponsored by T-shirt Printing Plus will be hosted at GHS’s Foreman Field on Saturday, 4/23.  The field events will begin at 9:00 AM. The 4 x 800 m Relay will begin at 9:15 AM.  Track trials will begin at 10:00 AM, with finals starting at noon.

 

The only entrance is the main entrance by the concession stand.  The entrance north of the home bleachers will not be open.  Please park in the west parking lot.  Due to construction, it will be a longer walk to the ticket gate.  Feel free to drop off fans at 10th and Purl St.

 

Admission price is $5 for kindergarten to adult.  Goshen High School All sport tickets and Goshen High School student activity cards will be honored.

 

Mr. Dick Kierstead is the honorary referee this year’s meet.  Dick will be recognized at 11:45 AM along with other event workers and the Relays Queen and court.

Boys Golf Time Change

For this Saturday’s Varsity Boys’ Golf Invitational, the start time will now be 11:00 AM. It will still be held at Maplecrest Country Club.

JV Baseball Location Change

The JV baseball game for tonight, April 14th vs. New Prairie will now be played at Rogers Park in Goshen. This is a location change from the originally scheduled game at New Prairie. The game will still start at 5:30 PM.

4/9/16 DH Baseball Canceled and updates for Next Week’s Baseball

The Goshen HS baseball Doubleheader vs. New Prairie HS scheduled for Saturday, 4/9/16 has been postponed and changed to a single game on Thursday, 4/14/16.  The varsity game will be held at Goshen at 5:30 PM eastern and the JV game will be played at New Prairie with a 5:30 PM eastern start time. 

 

In addition, due to rescheduled v/jv games for Tuesday, 4/12 and 4/14, the C games for those dates have been canceled:  the 4/12/16 game at home vs. Plymouth and the 4/14/16 game at Wawasee are canceled.
