Spring Sports Awards Night

The Goshen High School Spring Sports Awards night will be Monday, June 6th. This will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the GHS Auditorium including all spring athletic teams with individual team break-out sessions to follow. There will be cookies and juice available in the commons area after the individual team sessions.

April & May Edward Jones Student Athletes of the Month

Edward Jones Scholar Athlete of the Month:

Goshen High School and Edward Jones are proud to announce the student-athlete of the month award to recognize athletic and academic excellence.  A senior male and female student-athlete will be selected from August – May each school year.  At the end of the year, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student athlete of the month, as selected by the GHS head coaching staff.

The winners of the Edward Jones Student-Athlete of the Month Award for April & May are:


Row 1: Brenn McKee, Kimberly Grounds, Emily Castillo, Jordan Holley

Kimberly Grounds: Kim is the daughter of Misty & Mark Grounds. She is a senior on the girls’ track team and maintains a GPA of 3.0. She is also on the cross country and swim & dive team, and is a part of youth group at Grace Community Church. Kim placed 1st or 2nd in the pole vault at all 5 meets she competed in during the month of April. This included finishing 1st at the John Reed Relays, which had 9 teams there. She also finished 1st against Wawasee, Plymouth, Elkhart Memorial, and Concord and finished 2nd against Northridge & NorthWood. After high school, Kim plans on going to college for four years to become a Dental Hygenist.

Jordan Holley: Jordan is the son of Jeremy Holley & Phaly So. He is a senior of the boys’ basketball team and maintains a GPA of 3.099. He is also on the football team, Stay in Bounds Ambassadors and plays intramural basketball and guitar. Jordan placed 1st in the shot put and discus against NorthWood, 1st in discus and 2nd in shot put against Concord & Plymouth, 2nd in discus and 6th in shot put at the Goshen Relays in the month of April. He has received many honors in football including Defensive MVP, All-Conference, AP All-State, IFCA 2nd Team All-State, All-Region, Defensive Most Improved and Captain’s Award. He is also a 2-time NLC Champion and 2-time Sectional Champion in track in the shot put & discus. Jordan’s future plans include getting married, having 2 kids and hopefully help to draw blueprints or build houses for people.

Emily Castillo: Emily is the daughter of Teo & Maria Castillo. She is a senior on the softball team and maintains a GPA of 3.0. She was the starting short shop for the softball team and had a .344 batting average. She had 31 total hits, 24 RBI’s, 9 Doubles, 2 Triples, and 11 Stolen Bases this year. Emily is a 3-year letter winner for softball and has received many awards including Mental Attitude Award (2015), Defensive Player Award (2014), Offensive Player Award (2015), and NLC Honorable Mention (2015). Her future plans include attending IUSB and majoring in Elementary Education.

Brenn McKee: Brenn is the son of Scott & Stacey McKee. He is a senior on the boys’ track & field team and maintains a GPA of 3.813. He is also on the cross country and swim & dive teams. Brenn was one of the team’s conference champions and All-Conference in the Pole Vault. He has received many honors including Conference Champion, Academic Honors, 1st place in pole vault at the Goshen & Kelly Relays, and tied 8th at the Hoosier State Relays (indoor state). His future plans include attending Purdue University to major in Mechanical Engineering. He would also like to try to walk on to the Purdue track team and possibly join NROTC through the Marines at Purdue.

Miguel Navarro will be attending North Central College in Naperville, Illinois where he was recruited to compete for the Wrestling team. Miguel is the son of Miguel Navarro & Monica Sandoval. The GHS senior is a three-year letter winner for wrestling and has received many honors including Coaches Award, Kiwanis Scholar Athlete, and Academic All-State Honorable Mention. Miguel is also a 2-year letter winner in football and is part of Stay in Bounds Ambassadors. His future plans are currently undecided but include traveling to Japan and Asia and becoming a Pediatrician or a Forensic Scientist.

Due to potential issues related to weather (10 consecutive days with a chance of rain, including nine days currently predicated with a chance of thunderstorms), the second round of the IHSAA Softball Sectional at Warsaw is being adjusted and will be played on Tuesday, May 4.  The second round was originally scheduled to be played the following day – May 5th.

Goshen will face Elkhart Memorial in tonight’s opening-round matchup (5:30pm), followed by a quarterfinal game between Concord and Elkhart Central (7:30pm) at the Tiger Athletic Complex at WCHS.

Tuesday’s contests will feature the two quarterfinal winners playing at 5:30pm, and Warsaw will meet Northridge in the second of two semifinal games (7:30pm).  The championship game remains scheduled for Friday, 6:30pm, at the Tiger Athletic Complex.

Girls Tennis Sectionals

On Wednesday, May 18th at 4:30 pm, Goshen HS will be playing against NorthWood HS in the IHSAA Tennis Sectional hosted at Goshen Middle School.  The winner of that match will advance to the 2nd round.

On Thursday, May 19th at 4:30 pm, Jimtown HS will be playing against the winner of Round 1 (Goshen or NorthWood).  Fairfield HS will be playing against Bethany Christian HS.

The championship match will be played Friday, May 20th at 4:30 PM between the winners of the two Semifinals matches.

All matches will be played at the Goshen Middle School tennis courts located at US 119 (Plymouth Ave.) and CR #21 (Indiana Ave.)  Due to construction, please be aware that parking will be limited. Additional parking is available all around the GMS building. Overflow parking is available at the First Baptist Church at the NW corner of Indiana Ave. & Plymouth Ave.

Boys Track & Field Sectionals

On Thursday, May 19th Goshen High School will host the Boys’ Track & Field sectional meet.  The field events will begin at 5:30 PM. The 4 x 800 m Relay will begin at 6:00 PM.


The main entrance gate is by the concession stand. The only entrance is the main entrance by the concession stand and can be accessed via the west parking lot.  The entrance north of the home bleachers will not be open.


Admission price is $6.00 for kindergarten to adult.  Goshen High School All sport tickets and Goshen High School student activity cards will NOT be honored. Heat sheets will be available online at boystrack.goshenschools.org by Monday, May 16th at noon.
